MUNSHIGANJ, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam today said people have rejected the banned party, indicating ousted Awami League.

The party's activities were banned in the light of mass people's demand, said the minister while responding to journalists’ questions regarding the founding anniversary of Awami League, activities of which were banned following the 2024 July Mass Uprising that led to fall of the party.

He said by working against the interests of the people and failing to fulfill public aspirations, they had become isolated from the masses.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated a tree plantation programme undertaken by the Bangladesh Railway under the viaduct at the Dhaka end of the railway bridge built over the Dhaleshwari River in the Golgolia area of Sirajdikhan Upazila.

He said the current government, before the February 12 national elections, pledged to plant 25 crores of trees in five years. To achieve that goal, the Ministry of Railways will plant 1,60,000 saplings this year.
