DINAJPUR, July 3, 2026 (BSS) - The authorities of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) have served show-cause notices on 72 students of the 25th and 26th batches over allegations of ragging newly admitted undergraduate students.

The university administration took the action following allegations that the students were involved in intimidating and creating panic among freshers through ragging, said a press release issued on Thursday night.

The university administration and its disciplinary committee have adopted a zero-tolerance stance against ragging and vowed to eliminate the practice permanently from the campus, the release said.

Among those served with the notices are 26 students of the 26th batch and 13 students of the 25th batch from the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science, 21 students of the 26th batch and 10 students of the 25th batch from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department, and one student each from the 25th and 26th batches of the Faculty of Agriculture.

University sources said members of the proctorial team rushed to several locations, including BCS Goli adjacent to the campus, Kornai village, the university's pond area and private messes, after receiving reports of ragging incidents involving newly admitted students over the past few days.

The team reportedly found preliminary evidence supporting the allegations. Initial inquiries also indicated the involvement of students from the 25th and 26th batches in each of the reported incidents.

The accused students have been instructed to appear in person and submit written explanations within seven working days.

HSTU Proctor Prof Dr Md Nawsher Oan told BSS that the notices had been issued following allegations of ragging.

"Further action will be taken after reviewing their written explanations. If the explanations are found to be unsatisfactory, the university administration will be compelled to take strict disciplinary measures against the accused," he added.
