
MAGURA, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - Culture Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today said the nation would always remember with gratitude the supreme sacrifices of martyrs Ahad and Suman, whose bloodshed has inspired the dream of building a new Bangladesh free from discrimination.
"Today, we dream of a new, discrimination-free Bangladesh because of the sacrifices made by young people like martyrs Ahad and Suman. The Bengali nation will forever remember their great sacrifice with gratitude," he said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion and tribute-paying programme marking "July Martyrs' Day 2026" organised by the Mohammadpur Upazila Administration in Magura as the chief guest.
He said July Martyrs' Day is being observed across the country through both government and private initiatives.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs jointly inaugurated the special programme from Rasulpur in Mohammadpur, he said, adding that the government is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the ongoing programme in every upazila of the country.
Referring to various welfare-oriented and anti-discrimination initiatives of the interim government, the minister said a number of public welfare measures have been undertaken since the formation of the cabinet.
He said taxes on essential commodities for rural people have been waived.
In addition, "Family Cards" have been introduced in the names of the responsible female members of each family, while "Farmer Cards" have been launched to provide direct support to farmers.
Highlighting social and religious harmony and employment generation, the minister said imams, monks, priests and Christian religious leaders, along with preachers of all faiths, are being brought under a structured framework to receive monthly allowances.
He said comprehensive assistance is also being provided through the Hindu Welfare Trust under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
The minister added that multifaceted employment initiatives have been taken for unemployed youths across the country.
He said efforts are being intensified to increase remittance inflows and expand overseas employment opportunities through the Prime Minister's successful visit to Malaysia and bilateral discussions with other heads of government.
He also said extensive employment opportunities are being created through the Ministries of Industries, Commerce and Finance.
The programme was chaired by Mohammadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Bedabati Mistry.
Local dignitaries, government officials, student leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Movement and people from all walks of life attended the event.
