DHAKA, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today said all students of primary and secondary levels will get textbooks within February.

"We hope that all students will get textbooks within February next," he told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here.

Adviser Mahfuj Alam and Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were present at the press briefing.

Shafiqul Alam said the previous government had held textbook festival for one day, showing that all students were getting textbooks on January 1.

But data shows that full distribution of textbooks was completed in March, while in some years, even textbooks were distributed until July, he said.

The press secretary said the last date of textbook distribution in 2022 academic year was March 24, while March 17 in 2023 academic year and February 27 in 2024 academic year.

He said the interim government is working with all stakeholders to reach the textbooks to the students as soon as possible.

"Even the government sat with the paper producers so that the printing of textbooks could be expedited," he added.

Replying to a question, Alam said the entire task of textbook printing was gone beyond the border while employment opportunities were created there.

Now the printing of the textbooks are being conducted within the country and “we have shown that we have the capacity to print the textbooks” in the country, he said.

The press secretary mentioned that over 11 crore textbooks have already been printed in Bangladesh this year.

Hoping that all the students will get textbooks on January 1 next year, he said the PDF version of all textbooks were made available online from January 1 this year.
