DHAKA, Nov 24, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today granted a six-month ad-interim bail to Dhaka University (DU) law faculty Professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karjon in a case lodged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja and Justice Rezaul Karim passed the order, also issuing a rule, asking the concerned authorities to explain within four weeks why Karjon should not be granted permanent bail in the case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque on August 29, 2025, sent 16 people, including former minister Abdul Latif Siddique, journalist Monjurul Alam Panna and Professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karjon, to jail in the case.

Police detained the 16 on August 28 after they went to attend a discussion organised by Mancha 71, which claims itself a platform for Freedom Fighters, at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).

A group of people surrounded and heckled them, accusing them of being loyalists of the Awami League.

Police later showed them arrested in the case, which accuses them of plotting to topple the current interim government.
