DHAKA, May 21, 2026 (BSS)- Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has asked Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner to submit the probe report in the case lodged over the murder of a seven-year-old schoolgirl in the capital’s Pallabi area within a week.

Ministry spokesperson Dr Md Rezaul Karim said the law minister also assured that necessary steps would be taken to ensure the swift completion of the trial.

The prime accused of the case Sohel Rana has given a confessional statement before a Dhaka court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and Rana’s wife Swapna Akter, who is also an accused in the case, was earlier sent to jail by a court.

According to the case documents, Sohel Rana lured the child, a student of Class II, to his flat and raped her on May 19. He later brutally killed the child, severing her body in parts before hiding under the bed and bathroom.

The victim’s father filed the case with Pallabi Police Station on May 20.
