
DHAKA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, MP, today said regional cooperation, strategic dialogue and research-based knowledge sharing are essential to ensure peace, stability and security in South Asia in the changing global context.
He came up with the remarks while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the “1st CFS International Conference” as the chief guest at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), said a release of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate this afternoon.
The Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies (FSSS) of BUP organized a two-day conference at the BUP’s Swadhinata Auditorium with the theme “National Security of South Asia in the Context of the Emerging World Order”.
Noting that the nature of global security challenges is changing rapidly, the Speaker said alongside conventional military threats, cyber security, climate change, terrorism, migration crises and geopolitical competition have created new realities for South Asia.
Emphasizing effective dialogue among researchers, academics and policymakers, the Speaker said universities should be developed not only as centres of education but also as hubs for policy support and strategic thinking.
Dr Pramod Jaiswal of Nepal, Subhashini Abeyasinghe of Sri Lanka, Dr Salma Malik of Pakistan and Dr Greg Simons of Sweden were the keynote speakers at the conference, the ISPR mentioned.
Distinguished professors and researchers from different universities and research institutions of Bangladesh also took part in the conference.
BUP Vice-Chancellor Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam, deans of different faculties, senior officials, teachers, researchers, students and invited guests were present on the occasion.
The two-day conference featured several academic sessions, panel discussions and research paper presentations, creating a vibrant environment for knowledge sharing and policy-oriented discussion, the ISPR added.
