
DHAKA, July 17, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor has reaffirmed Bangladesh's unwavering commitment to building inclusive, affordable, climate-resilient and sustainable cities, highlighting planned urbanisation as a key driver of economic growth, social inclusion and environmental resilience.
"Planned urbanisation, affordable housing and balanced regional development are among the key pillars of Bangladesh's national development strategy. The country views urbanisation as a key driver of economic growth, social inclusion and climate resilience," he said.
The state minister made the remarks while delivering Bangladesh's national statement at the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters here yesterday, according to a press release received here today.
Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's 'Bangladesh First' policy, Sohel Monzoor said the government has attached priority to expanding affordable housing, strengthening local government institutions and developing sustainable urban infrastructure.
He said these initiatives would help advance the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The state minister said the government is also prioritising integrated spatial planning, digital land management, innovative urban financing, balanced regional development and climate-resilient urban infrastructure as part of its forward-looking urban development strategy.
Reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to international cooperation, he called for stronger global partnerships, greater technology transfer, enhanced capacity building and innovative financing to accelerate sustainable urbanisation worldwide.
"Sustainable urban development should build a future where no people and no region are left behind," he added.
