DoE's mobile courts conduct drives in parts of country

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2025 (BSS) - The mobile courts of the Department of
Environment (DoE) today conducted drives in different parts of the country
and filed eight cases, collected Taka 18,500 as fines and seized
approximately 2,042 kilograms(kg) of polythene at those areas.

Besides, one polythene factory was sealed and shut down, said in a press
release of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Four mobile courts were conducted in Barishal, Sylhet, Chapainawabganj and
Dhaka's Uttara and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas to curb the production, sale,
supply, and marketing of banned polythene, the release added.

Three mobile courts drives were conducted in Dhaka's Uttara and Sher-e-Bangla
Nagar areas and Gazipur.

The officials concerned of the mobile courts found environmental violations,
such as keeping construction materials uncovered and air pollution caused by
steel/re-rolling mills.

Fines worth Taka 3.5 lakh were collected from 11 establishments and several
owners were warned during the raids.

In Dhaka's Mirpur-1 area, a mobile court found excessive black smoke
emissions from vehicles. Later, three drivers were fined a total of Taka
5,500.

In Chapainawabganj, a mobile court fined one vehicle driver Taka 500 and
confiscated two hydraulic horns to control noise pollution.

In Dhaka, another mobile court shut down a facility operating illegally to
melt lead and batteries.

Two truckloads of lead-melting equipment were seized and the factory was
later, sealed.

Such operations to prevent environmental pollution will continue, the release
said.
