Probe report submission against ex-MP Bahar April 20

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2025 (BSS) - The court here today fixed April 20 for the submission of investigation reports in three separate cases filed against former Cumilla lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar, his wife Meherunnesa, daughter and former mayor of Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) Tahseen Bahar Suchona in connection with amassing illegal wealth.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib fixed the date for the submission of the probe reports.

On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed three separate cases against Bahar, his wife and daughter.

According to the document of the first case, Bahauddin illegally acquired assets worth Taka 67 crore, 43 lakh, 13,836 inconsistent with his known source of income through abusing power and committing corruption as a lawmaker.

Besides, he (Bahar) has knowingly transferred and converted illegal money through unusual and suspicious transactions amounting to Taka 258 crores, 68 lakh, 63,905 inconsistent with the known income of 29 banks.

According to the second case document, AKM Bahauddin's daughter Tahseen Bahar, former Mayor of Cumilla City Corporation (CCC), while being a Public Servant, has fraudulently acquired ownership of assets worth Taka 3 crore, 4 lakh, 50,770 inconsistent with her known source of income.

In another case, ex-MP's housewife Meherunnesha allegedly made an attempt to legitimize the illegal wealth of Bahauddin by presenting herself as a businesswoman in the income tax returns.
