BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Shahida Rafique passes away

DHAKA, March 2, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson's Advisory Council member Professor Dr Shahida Rafiquedied at Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi here this morning. 

She was 77, BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed it to BSS.

Prof Shahida is survived by her husband BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, two sons and a host of relatives and admirers. 

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Shahida Rafique.

Earlier on Thursday, she was injured after falling into a hole in the BNP's extended meeting venue in the LD Hall of the National Parliament here. Later, she received first aid there.

The on-duty doctors at the party's extended meeting advised the party leaders and activists to take her to the hospital.

Shahida Rafique was admitted to Dhanmondi's Ibn Sina Hospital as per their directives. Her blood pressure suddenly dropped significantly on Saturday morning. 

The on-duty doctors quickly shifted her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. She died at 7.30am during treatment at the ICU.
