KHULNA, March 05, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) General Secretary Quader Gani Chowdhury today called upon journalists to practice objective journalism impartially to restore people's confidence in media.

"Journalists must remain impartial and should practice objective journalism to restore people's trust in media," he said at view exchange meeting with local journalists of Khulna at the Metropolitan Journalists' Union (MUJ) office in the Khulna Press Club.

Quader Gani also urged the journalists to be united for their greater interest, saying: "If we are united, remain truthful, and report objectively, no one can stop us".

He said journalists can play a significant role in transforming Bangladesh into a humane state as the newsmen should have a motto not to be involved in yellow journalism or spreading falsehoods.

The noted journalist leader said the media can play the most crucial role in building a new Bangladesh free from discrimination.

Unfortunately, over the past 16 years, the mass media had been largely responsible for turning an authoritarian ruler into a totalitarian dictator, he said.

Quader Gani, also the deputy managing director of East West Media Group, said if the media had properly highlighted issues such as enforced disappearances, murders, oppression, and election fraud --- where votes were cast at the night before election day-, the fascist government led by Sheikh Hasina would not have lasted for 15 years.

He also pointed out that the role of the media is to expose irregularities to the people.

The fallen Awami League government has severely damaged journalism by creating a group of partisan journalists who published false narratives, eroding the people's trust in the media, Kader Gani said.

He reminded everyone that the media is the watchdog of the state. It guides the government, administration, and the people to the right direction, he said.

A bold and strong media is essential for establishing a welfare state, he added.

Chaired by MUJ president Md Anisuzzaman, its Acting General Secretary Abul Hasan Himaloy conducted it.

Among others, Assistant Secretary General of BFUJ Ehteshamul Haque Shawon, ex-Vice President Rashedul Islam, ex-Executive Members Sheikh Didarul Alam, H M Alauddin, MUJ Treasurer Abdur Razzak Rana, Daily Naya Diganta's Khulna Bureau Chief Md. Ershad Ali, Daily Bangladesh Pratidin and News 24's Khulna Bureau Chief Shamsuzzaman Shaheen, Bangla News 24's Bureau Editor Mahbubur Rahman Munna, Daily Jugantor's Khulna Bureau Chief Ahmad Musa Ranju, and Ekushey TV's Khulna Correspondent Ashraful Islam Nur, spoke in the meeting
