Ex-MP MA Maleque on 4-day remand in Ashulia killing case

DHAKA, March 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-20 constituency MA Maleque on a four-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of one Riajul Islam in Ashulia area during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohagh passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

Maleque was arrested from the capital's Mirpur area at the night of March 5.

Riajul Islam, 38, joined anti-discrimination rally on Nabinagar-Chandra Highway under Ashulia Police Station on August 5. He got shot and was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The case was filed in this connection on November 24.
