DHAKA, Mar 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent former energy advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury's former personal assistant (PS) Md. Monowar Hossain, 50, to jail in an attempted murder case during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza passed the order after the hearing, Police Sub-Inspector Md. Mizan, an officer of the general registration section in the court, confirmed it to BSS.
He said Monowar was produced before the court pleading to detain him in the jail by the investigation officer and Adabor Police Station Sub-Inspector Manmoth Halder, while defense lawyer made a plea for his bail.
After the hearing, the judge sent him to jail, rejecting bail petition.
Adabor police arrested Monowar at 4:30 am on Wednesday from Baitul Aman Housing Society under Adabor police station in Dhaka.
According to the case statement, Monowar Hossain is a suspected accused in a case filed at Adabor Police Station for the attempt to kill Md. Monir Hossain in the anti-discrimination student movement. Monir Hossain as the plaintiff filed the case with Adabor Police Station on September 21 last year.
Monowar was PS of former energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury in 2009-10 and an assistant-secretary of the central sub-committee of Awami League, who was also a candidate for the Dhamrai constituency in the last parliamentary elections.
