Former MP Aftab Uddin on 4-day remand

RANGPUR, March 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today granted a four-day remand to former lawmaker Aftab Uddin Sarkar in the murder case of Mahmudul Hasan Munna, who was killed during the student-led mass uprising.
 
Metropolitan Magistrate-1 Court Judge Md. Soyebur Rahman granted the remand after police produced him before the court seeking a 15-day remand.
 
After hearing both sides, the court granted the four-day remand.
 
The court has also fixed the date for submission of the investigation report in the case on March 18 next.

Aftab was arrested from the Senpara area of Rangpur city in the early hours of today.
 
Munna was shot dead in front of the Rangpur Raja Ram Mohon Club in the city on August 4 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
 
Munna's father, Abdul Majid, filed a murder case against 128 people, including former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, with the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Kotwali Cognizance Court on August 29 last year.
 
Former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, along with several leaders of Awami League and its allied organization, has already been arrested in connection with the murder case.
