DHAKA, March 8, 2025 (BSS) - As part of the ongoing initiative by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock during the holy month of Ramadan, a fair price sale of milk, eggs, and meat began today for members of the National Press Club on its premises.
Nilufa Akhter, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, officially inaugurated the sale for National Press Club members, said a press release.
Director General of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Dr. Md. Abu Sufiun and National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz were present at the time.
Speaking on the occasion, Nilufa Akhter said the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has undertaken this program to increase the supply of protein-based food products at affordable prices among the people of the country.
Mentioning that this initiative has been drawn a great enthusiasm among women across the country in purchasing these products, she said through this program it has been possible to keep the prices of products in the market at a tolerable level.
Dr. Md. Abu Sufiun said that this program is being conducted across the country, while at 25 spots every day in the capital and thousand spots outside Dhaka.
Till Friday, a total of about Taka six crore worth of eggs, milk, dressed broiler, beef, and mutton have been sold in various parts of the country including the capital, he revealed.
As of March 7, about 52,453 buyers in the capital have purchased these products of which 27,308 were female buyers, while 25,145 were male buyers, he added.
Besides, one-third of the total buyers outside Dhaka are women, which means, this government initiative has received a good response among women, said the DLS director general.
Extending gratitude to Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar for starting this program for journalists, Hasan Hafiz said the more such humanitarian programs can be expanded, the more the people of the country will benefit.
The crisis that typically arises in protein-sourced products during the month of Ramadan has not occurred this time, thanks to the careful planning of the interim government, he added.
At the fair price sale program, dressed broiler meat is being sold at Taka 250 per kilogram, while pasteurized milk at Taka 80 per liter, Taka 114 per dozen eggs and Taka 650 per kilogram of beef.
The Fisheries and Livestock adviser inaugurated this program on February 28 on the occasion of Ramadan.
The DLS's Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP), Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC), Bangladesh Dairy and Fattening Farmers Association (BDFFA) and other stakeholders including dairy processing companies and marginal farmers are supporting this program.
