JU students demand exemplary punishment for rape of minor girl

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Mar 8, 2025 (BSS) - Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) today, staged a protest rally demanding speedy trial and exemplary punishment of perpetrators who raped a minor girl, visiting her elder sister at her in-laws' home in Magura early Thursday.

Under the banner of 'Magura Students Welfare Association' the protesters assembled around 11:30am at the university's central Shaheed Minar.

Addressing the rally, Moumita Tabassum, a student of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department said, "Whenever we open a newspaper, we see one thing and that is rape. A minor girl has been fiercely raped in our beloved city of Magura, which is frightening for us. We demand the interim government to hang such a ferocious rapist publicly."

Mehedi Hasan, a student of International Relations department, said, "The rape incident in Magura is a shame for us. We want the interim government to ensure the punishment of rapists as soon as possible."

Speakers at the rally also urged the interim government to take visible and effective measures for restoring law and order across the country.
