DHAKA, Mar 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed two separate cases against former lawmaker from Jashore-6 constituency Md Shaheen Chaklader and his wife Farhana Jahan Mala for acquiring wealth beyond their known sources of income.
ACC Director General (DG) (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain disclosed the information to the media at a briefing at the ACC headquarter here.
The DG said that the former lawmaker has acquired wealth worth about Taka 424,664,623 illegally by misusing power during his tenure as a Member of Parliament (MP) through corruption. He has transacted Taka 3,816,166,365 through his 29 bank accounts and already transferred, handed over and converted the money or asset, which is inconsistent with his known sources of income.
The ACC lodged a case against Chaklader under section 27(1) of the ACC Act-2004 and sub-section 2and 3 under section 4 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act-2012 and section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947 for this crimes committed by him.
Besides, the ACC brought charges against Farhana Jahan Mala, wife of Shaheen Chaklader, for acquiring huge illegal wealth in connivance with her husband. The commission brought the charges against her under section 27(1) of the ACC Act-2004 and section 109 of the Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC).
