DHAKA, June 9, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered to send one Abu Sayeed Morol to jail after ending his one-day remand for murdering Md Shah Alam, a trader from the capital's Rupnagar area.

Rupnagar police produced Abu Sayeed before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) with a plea to keep him in jail until the probe into the case is completed.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub, after hearing the arguments of the prosecution, ordered him to jail.

Earlier on Saturday, police arrested Abu Sayeed from Rupnagar in the greater Mirpur area and took him on a one-day remand for interrogation.

According to the case documents, Shah Alam, a watermelon trader from the Rupnagar Milk Vita Intersection area was mercilessly beaten up by a gang as he protested a mass beating of a youth named Raihan on March 20.

The gang, reportedly led by local gangster Milton, was beating Raihan and attempted to drag him into a nearby club. When Shah Alam intervened, they let Raihan go but turned on Shah Alam and beat him severely.

Following the incident, Shah Alam was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital and later shifted to National Orthopedic Hospital (Pongu Hospital), Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), and finally Islami Bank Hospital for better treatment.

He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Islami Bank Hospital.

Laboni Akhter, the victim's widow, later filed a murder case with Rupnagar Police Station in this connection.
