Nation will remember KM Obaidur Rahman’s contribution forever: Fakhrul

DHAKA, Mar 20, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said late KM Obaidur Rahman, BNP Secretary General and renowned politician, was a patriotic politician who respected democracy throughout his life.

“KM Obaidur Rahman actively participated in every movement for independence and democracy, starting from his student life and continuing into his later years in national politics,” he said in a statement, marking the 18th death anniversary of the politician.

In the statement sent to the media, Mirza Fakhrul expressed deep respect for the departed soul of KM Obaidur Rahman, who was a key organizer of the Liberation War, a prominent student leader of the 1960s, and one of the country's most respected politicians.

KM Obaidur Rahman passed away on March 21, 2007.

Praising KM Obaidur Rahman’s significant contributions to the nation, Fakhrul said, “KM Obaidur Rahman was a widely respected national leader who remained deeply connected to the masses of Bangladesh. Through his capable leadership, he played a pivotal role in organizing and strengthening the party.”

“As a staunch follower of multi-party democracy and a key participant in the Liberation War, this distinguished politician will remain forever memorable to the nation. I believe his path will always inspire future generations,” he added.

He also said, “Carrying the nationalist ideals of the nation's founding father, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia, KM Obaidur Rahman made invaluable contributions to the struggles for democratic rights and against authoritarian rule.”

“His contributions will always be fondly remembered by both the party and the people of Bangladesh,” he added.

The BNP Secretary General concluded his tribute by praying for the eternal peace of the politicians’ departed soul.
