Police arrests 2 robbers, recovers iron rod-laden lorry

DHAKA, March 27, 2025 (BSS) - Police overnight recovered a mild steel (MS) laden lorry hours after it was hijacked from a city thoroughfare and arrested two alleged hitchers, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said in a statement today.

It said the lorry was carrying the round iron bars of worth Tk. 37 lakh from southeastern port city of Chattogram to Tongni on the outskirts of the city while the muggers hijacked the vehicle from the Kuril Biswa Road area.

According to the statement being informed by the lorry driver Khilkhet police intercepted the truck at 300-foot expressway adjacent to Mastul Foot Over Bridge and arrested the two -- Manik Mia and Dulal Miah who are in their mid 30s and mid-50s respectively.

“We recovered the truck at around 12.15 midnight last night loaded with 32.60 tonnes of iron rods,” a police officer familiar with the drive said adding the two muggers were arrested on the spot but two of the fellow hijackers managed to flee though drives were underway to arrest them.

He said the lorry driver and two arrested muggers were wounded in scuffles when the vehicle was stolen and all of them were treated at Kurmitola General Hospital.
