DHAKA, Mar 28, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today said the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina “turned the country into Karbala to retain power”.

“The recent movement took place because the elections were not fair at all . . . Dictator Sheikh Hasina did not ensure free and fair elections rather she turned the country into a Karbala to stay in power,” he said.

Rizvi was distributing ‘Eid Gifts’ among rickshaw-van and auto drivers on behalf of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at Naya Paltan here today.

The senior BNP leader said the image of the interim government will be tarnished if everyone does not accept the sacrifices of the people in the uprising.

Regarding the next general election, he urged the government to reassure the nation by announcing a road map for holding elections, instead of making such wavering statements.

Even though the interim government was not directly elected by the people, it has the landslide support of the people as all the demonstrating political parties have supported them, Rizvi added.

Stating that the workers of 122 garment factories have not received their salaries yet and workers of 150 garment factories have not received their bonuses, the BNP spokesperson said, “It is the government's responsibility to ensure the workers' salaries, bonuses and allowances immediately”.

Rizvi said 17 rickshaw pullers had to make their supreme sacrifices in the July-Aug movement for that their families are living under a serious economic hardship. “The government should take responsibility for their families, their children as well as providing jobs for the eligible family members of the diseased,” he added.

Rizvi said Sheikh Hasina's government destroyed the country's electoral system. At that time, thieves and robbers used to be MPs while good people was in jail.
Speaking on the occasion, Ishraque Hossain said at the event, "After a long legal battle of almost five years, I received the verdict yesterday. I have received justice through this verdict”.

Hearing the case following August 5, 2024 and ensuring proper legal process, Ishraque said I have now received the verdict, which was not given during the dictator Sheikh Hasina’s regime.
