Interim govt is pro-poor and media-friendly: Secretary Dr. Mohiuddin

CHATTOGRAM, April 5, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin said incumbent interim government under prudent leadership of Prof. Muhammad Yunus is a pro-poor and media-friendly government that has been working relentlessly to improve the living standard of underprivileged and deprived classes.

While speaking as chief guest at a function to exchange Eid greeting with journalists, Dr. Mohiuddin also said that the government has announced increasing budgetary allocation for social safety net programmes in the next budget for betterment of the distressed and marginal income group people.

Interim Committee of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) arranged the function at VIP Lounge on Saturday afternoon with CPC Member Secretary Zahidul Karim Kachi in the chair.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue), Chattogram Nurullah Nuri, President of Chattogram Metropolitan Union of Journalists, Mohammed Shah Nowaz, Director of Social Welfare Department Kazi Nazimul Islam, Additional District Magistrate Syed Mahbubul Haque, Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department Md Faridul  Alam, CPC leaders and members including Mostafa Nayim, Golam Mowla Murad , Editor of Rupali Bangladesh Sayem Faruki, Editor of Daily Purbatara Saiful Alam Siddique Rana, Saifullah Chowdhury, Majumder Nazim Uddin, Shahnewaz Riton, Hasan Mukul, Aminul Islam, Sohag Kumer Biswas, Kiron Sharma, Farul Munir, Alamgir Noor, Jahangir Alam, Enam Haider and Nowshin Akter spoke at the function.  

Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin said apart from taking various measures to keep the price of essential commodities under tolerable range, special grant and allowances were given to around 1.22 crore poor class people across the country before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Terming the journalists as conscience and mirror of the society, he said “We all have to work together for advancement of the country and ensure accountability of all to the society so that a just-based and discrimination-free society can be established.

He assured the journalists of extending all possible help from his ministry for welfare of the media workers.
