DHAKA, April 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced notorious e-commerce platform Evaly's Chairman Shamima Nasrin and her husband and company Managing Director (MD) Mohammad Rassel to three years jail in a fraud case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhajur Rahman pronounced the judgment, also fining them Taka 5,000 each or to suffer six months more behind bars in default.

"The court also issued arrest warrant against the couple as they remained absconding during the pronouncement of the judgment," plaintiff's counsel Sakibul Islam told BSS.

According to the case documents, the plaintiff, Mujahid Hasan Fahim, ordered a bike from the company on February 20, 2021, and paid the money in advance. But Evaly authorities failed to hand him over the bike within the stipulated time of 45 days.

Fahim went to their Dhanmandi office, from where he was given a cheque of Taka five lakh, but the company later asked him not to encash the cheque as their account did not have enough money at the time.

After that, the plaintiff contacted the company on numerous occasions for his money, but his cry went unheard. Mujahid Hasan Fahim, after that, sent legal notice and subsequently filed the case against Rassel and Shamima in January 2024.
