Prisons HQ denounces fake news over attack on VIP prisoners in Keraniganj jail

DHAKA, April 12, 2025 (BSS) – The Prisons Headquarters in a statement today strongly condemned a fake video content titled “Attack on VIP Zone of Keraniganj Prison” on a YouTube channel “Tawfiq Maruf Journal” terming it as baseless information.
 
“The Prisons Headquarters is strongly protesting against the dissemination of such baseless information,” the statement said, signed by Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Media) Md. Jannat Ul Farhad.  
 
The Prisons Headquarters confirmed that no such incident had taken place in any prison including Keraniganj Prison and demanded quicker action against spreading such misleading and provocative information.      
 
“We firmly inform everyone that no such incident has occurred in any prison in the country including Keraniganj. We are firmly committed to ensuring safety of all prisoners including VIP prisoners,” the statement said.
 
Despite various limitations, the prison authorities give utmost importance to ensuring the safety of prisoners and the Prisons Directorate has the necessary preparation and capacity in this regard, it said.
 
“In this situation, the Department of Prisons humbly requests everyone to ensure the accuracy of any information regarding a sensitive institution like a prison before disseminating it,” the statement said.
 
“At the same time, we request the relevant authorities to take appropriate legal action against those who create disorder and anxiety in the public mind by spreading such baseless and provocative information in the future,” it concluded.
