DHAKA, April 14, 2025 (BSS) – Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that conspiracies were hatched centering the Bengali New Year celebration in the last 15 years.

“Conspiracies were hatched over the Bengali New Year celebration in the last 15 years. In this celebration, there was a planned attempt to impose the culture of a neighboring country on this country," he said in a discussion at Sangskriti Bikash Kendra in the capital's Paribagh area.

“Propaganda was spread against the BNP chairperson under the guise of masks on the first day of Baishakh," he said, adding that "even issues like keeping beards and wearing Islamic caps (tupi) were made part of various conspiracies.”

The nation's desire on this first day of the New Year is to quickly restore the voting rights as there should be no dilly-dally in ensuring democracy, he said.
Criticizing the ousted fascist government, the BNP senior leader said the fascist Hasina established her authoritarianism by taking away all the rights of the people of the country, including their right to vote.

"Democracy is like a flowing river — it has no place for authoritarianism. It thrives only where authoritarianism does not exist," he added.

BNP's Central Assistant Publicity Secretary Asadul Karim Shahin presided over the discussion, while Pro-Vice Chancellor of National University Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, poet Reza Stalin, BNP Executive Committee Member Mahbub Islam and Central Swechchhasebak Dal Vice President Dr Jahedul Kabir Jahid addressed it, among others, as special guests.
