Rajuk asks land owners to comply with building codes

DHAKA, April 17, 2025 (BSS) – Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) today asked the land and plot owners to comply with the building code while constructing residential and commercial buildings.

RAJUK made the call at an inter-ministerial meeting to ensure planned urbanization and efficient land use by preventing design deviations and unauthorized construction.

The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works at Bangladesh Secretariat, said a press release.

The meeting decided to halt construction, deploy mobile courts and impose fines to prevent design deviations and unauthorized construction.

If illegal construction continues despite the warnings, utility connections including water, electricity, and gas would be disconnected if necessary, the meeting decided.

Housing and Public Works Secretary Nazrul Islam presided over the meeting while RAJUK Chairman Engineer Reazul Islam, representatives of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Power Division, and Local Government Division, Chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, Managing Director of DPDC, Chief Executive Officer of Narayanganj City Corporation, Managing Director of Dhaka WASA, Managing Director of DESCO Limited, and Managing Director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC were present.
