MYMENSINGH, May 4, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has set a target of producing 200 tonnes of quality seeds this year to supply those across the country through Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) and Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

Chief Farm Superintendent (Acting) Md. Ziaur Rahman disclosed this while addressing the 'Boro Seed Paddy Cutting 2025' programme inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of BAU Professor Dr. AKM Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan as the chief guest.

The university's Farm Management Unit organised the event.

Student Affairs Advisor Professor Dr Md Shahidul Haque, Proctor Professor Dr Md Abdul Alim, Treasurer Professor Dr Humayun Kabir along with officers and employees were present.

Md Ziaur Rahman said that paddy seed will be harvested on 159 acres of land this year. Out of this, paddy of Bri-29, Bri-78, Bri-88, Bri-89, Bri-92, Bina-10, Bina-25 and Bina-28 varieties have been cultivated. This year, a target of producing 200 tonnes of quality seeds has been set to supply those across the country through BINA and BADC.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan said, "Our goal is to increase production and develop the university as a model for agricultural development through research in every sector of agriculture, including paddy, vegetables, fruits, fish and poultry."

"Lands and ponds currently lying fallow or unused for research will soon be identified. These areas will then be integrated into the university's production and research activities."

"The optimal use of the university land will be ensured in these three areas - research, training and production," he added.
