40 Rohingyas fleeing Bhasan Char detained in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 12, 2025 (BSS) - Sitakundu Thana police today detained 40 Rohingyas, including 11 women and 16 children, from the Bhatiary area after they allegedly fled Bhasan Char.

Locals detained a group of Rohingyas with their belongings in Bhatiary this afternoon and informed the police.

Md Alamgir, inspector (investigation) of Sitakundu Police Station, said police rushed to the spot and brought the Rohingyas to the station.

During preliminary questioning, the detainees admitted to escaping from Bhasan Char and arriving in Chattogram by engine boat.

"We are currently verifying their identities and claims," he added.

They will be sent back to the Rohingya camp in Bhasan Char, the inspector further said.
