Shahe Alam Murad placed on four-day remand in murder case

DHAKA, May 12, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered a four-day remand for Shahe Alam Murad, former general secretary of Dhaka South City unit of Awami League (AL), in connection with the murder of a young man -- Md. Riaz -- in Dhanmondi during the July mass uprising.

Shahe Alam Murad was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, where the investigating officer made a plea of five-day remand. 

Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque granted a four-day remand.

On April 17, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Murad in Uttara.

According to case details, Md. Riaz, 23, suffered critical gunshot injuries on his way to Jigatola from Science Lab area in Dhanmondi on August 4. 

After undergoing two weeks of treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on August 17. 

Later, his mother Mst Shafia Begum filed a murder case at Dhanmondi Police Station on September 9.
