MOULVIBAZAR, May 14, 2025(BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said that the main responsibility of the interim government is to give back the people's right to them by holding the general election as soon as possible.
"The interim government should announce the election roadmap soon to allow the people to exercise their voting rights," he said while addressing a special meeting of district BNP at a convention hall in the district town.
Chaired by the convener of Moulvibazar district BNP Fayzul Karim Moyun, the meeting was addressed by, among others, BNP Organizing Secretary (Sylhet Division) G K Gous, Assistant Organizing Secretaries Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon and Miftah Siddiqui and former lawmaker M Naser Rahman.
The meeting was moderated by member of district BNP Abdur Rahim Ripon where leaders from different upazilas and units also spoke.
"The BNP's 31-point charter is also a part of a continuous process of reform," Dr Zahid said, adding that the elected representatives will determine how the country will run.
The BNP did never think about its own interest, it always thinks about the interest of the country, its people and reforms, Dr Zahid said, adding that BNP doesn't fled from the country, leaving its people.
The BNP chairperson stayed in the country defying many odds, lucrative offers and proposal of many opportunities, he said and added that she accepted her illness but did now bow down.
The BNP standing committee member claimed that the present advancement of women in education and their empowerment is mainly the contribution of BNP.
The provision of caretaker government was incorporated in the constitution by passing a proposal in the parliament after the general election held on February 15 in 1996 as the BNP believes in peoples voting rights, he said, adding that on the basis of the amendment, another general election was held in 1996 under a caretaker government.
