DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced three people to life imprisonment in a case lodged over rape of a college student in Narayanganj in 2016.

Judge Md Golam Kabir of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 pronounced the judgment. The three convicts are Shamim Hossain, Nazmul and Jilkad.

"The three convict were also fined Taka one lakh each or to suffer six months more behind bars in default," public prosecutor Sazzad Hossain Sabuj told BSS.

According to the case documents, the victim, a student at a Narayanganj college, had been disturbed by convict Shamim Hossain on her daily commute to college.

On March 15, 2016, while on her way to college, the victim was abducted by Shamim and his accomplices-Nazmul, Jilkad and another unidentified individual near the college gate. They later raped her.

The victim's mother filed a case with Jatrabari Police Station on March 17, 2016. Following an investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against the three accused on June 2, 2016.

The court today came up with the judgment after examining eight witnesses on different hearing dates.
