River Police detains 311 people, seizes huge illegal nets

DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - The River Police has arrested 311 individuals, huge quantity of illegal nets, fish and fish fries in a nationwide intensified operation in the last seven days, said a press release.

During the operations, 2,98,06,610 meters of illegal nets, 5,237 kg of fish, 17,000 shrimp and shrimp fry were seized and 191 bushes were destroyed from the river.

A total of 88 cases including 68 cases for illegal fishing were filed against 311 detained individuals.

Several cases were also filed against 71 bulkheads in the Naval Court and three dredgers were seized due to having no valid documents.

The seized illegal nets have been destroyed while the fish have been distributed to orphanages and the fish fry have been released into the water, the release said.
