Six arrested with huge counterfeit currencies in city

DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) in a raid at the capital’s Mohakhali area busted a fake currency made factory and apprehended six individuals with huge amount of fake currencies and equipment of producing those. 

The arrested have been identified as Md. Saiful Islam (28), Md. Rezaul Karim alias Reza (43), Md. Sohel (40), Md. Saidur Rahman (28), Sohel Mahmud (24) and Md. Shaha Alam (35). 

During the operation, fake currencies worth about Tk 82,300, Tk 2.14 lakh in cash and equipment of making those were recovered from the possessions of the detainees, said a DB press release.
 
A Cyber and Special Crime Division of the DB on a tip-off arrested three people in front of Mohakhali police box under Banani police station with fake currencies. 

Later, based on the information given by them, a raid was conducted at a house in the Barrister Bazar area under Panchagarh Sadar police station at around 08:10pm on Wednesday and arrested three others. 

Following confessions of the arrestees Sabuj and Sohel Mahmud, the DB team searched their houses and found fake currencies worth Tk 78,300, equipment of producing those, and cash worth Tk 214,000.
