New voters want to exercise voting rights: Nazrul

DHAKA, May 16, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has said young voters are earnestly waiting to exercise their voting rights to ascertain the state of governance.

"Vote is their highest political right. For this thousands of people suffered in prison, sacrificed their lives and were oppressed," he said.

He said this at a discussion on 'Maulana Matin's role in building an exploitation-free society' organized by the Bangladesh Labor Party at Jatiya Press Club here today.

Khan said the Election Commission has already told that all preparation for the polls would be completed by June. In that case, there should be no difficulty in holding the elections by December, he said.

He further said, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had given a 19-point reform program in 1976-77. Khaleda Zia gave a very well-organized 2030 Vision in 2016, which was a complete agenda for state reforms, he added.

"Then in 2022, Tarique Rahman had announced a 27-point reform program and its enriched version 31-point state repair program was announced in 2023 through consultation with cross section of people and BNP’s political allies,” he said.

BNP Chairperson's Advisor Zainul Abdin Farroque, Labor Party President Mostafizur Rahman Khan Iran and Secretary General Khandaker Mirajul Islam, among others, also spoke at the meeting.
