Banned BCL leader arrested in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, May 17, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested Shamsul Haque, president of Tungipara upazila banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) unit, from Kunia Bazar under Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat district last night.

The arrested BCL leader Shamsul Haque is the son of Siraj Sheikh of Sriramkandi village of the upazila and president of Tungipara upazila unit of the banned organisation.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tungipara Police Station Md. Khorshed Alam confirmed it to BSS on Saturday.

On a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shamsul Haque, the OC said.

Shamsul is an accused in several cases, including the murder case of Shawkat Hossain Didar, the sports affairs secretary of the Central Volunteer Party, in Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, and in the case of attack on police and vandalism of a car in Tungipara.
