Former CCC councilor Taufiq arrested in Dhaka

CHATTOGRAM, , May 17, 2025 (BSS) - Taufiq Ahmed Chowdhury, a former councilor of the South Pahartali ward of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and a leader of banned organization Awami Jubo League, was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka while attempting to flee the country.

Based on a tip-off, authorities apprehended Taufiq today afternoon and subsequently took him to Paltan Police Station in the capital.

Taufiq faces multiple criminal charges, including murder with several cases filed against him at various police stations, notably at Hathazari in Chattogram.
 
He is a member of the convening committee of the Chattogram City Jubo League and a closed aide of former state minister for education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.
 
Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) of Chattogram District Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz said, following a tip off, police detained Toufiq from Dhaka airport while he was trying to flee secretly.
 
Later, he was shown arrested in a case under Paltan Police station and will also be implicated in three more cases including one involving murder, filed with Hathazari Police Station.
