JHALAKATHI, May 18, 2025 (BSS) - Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council Justice A K M Abdul Hakim has stressed the need for combating sensationalist and unethical journalism practices, warning that such trends undermine the media's credibility and the public's trust.

"Irresponsible journalism destroys the credibility of the media, and this must be prevented at all costs," he told a training programme titled 'Combating Yellow Journalism and Promoting Objective News Reporting' at Jhalakathi.

A total of 40 journalists from different print and electronic media outlets took part in the training programme, organized by the Bangladesh Press Council in collaboration with the District Administration at the Jhalakathi Circuit House Conference Room.

AKM Abdul Hakim also stressed the importance of education and ongoing learning for journalists to better understand the impact of unethical reporting practices.

"Media is the mirror of society. Delivering accurate, impartial, and fact-based news is the core responsibility of journalists," he said.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Md. Ashrafur Rahman, it was also addressed by Md. Abdus Sabur, Secretary of the Bangladesh Press Council, Superintendent of Police Uzzal Kumar Ray, and District Information Officer Lelin Bala.
