16 more AL men arrested in city

DHAKA May 19, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of the police in separate raids arrested 16 members of Awami League (AL) and its front organizations from different parts of the capital in the last 24 hours.

The arrested have been identified as Narayanganj District Jubo League member Zakir Hossain Bepari, 38, former Secha Sebok League member of Barguna District Nazmul Hasan Sohag, 38, Barguna District Awami Jubo League Organizing Secretary Miraj Hossain, 40, Jatrabari unit AL activists Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, 36, Subadda Union Jubo League Organizing Secretary Arif Hossain, 30, Barguna district AL activist Mohiuddin, 46, Bangshal Thana Chhatra League member Md. Faisal Hossain, 29, Kadamtali Thana AL member Md. Abu Hossain, 45, Dhaka district Chhatra League activist R. Rahman, 18, Keraniganj Thana Chhatra League worker Zahid Hasan, 19, Paltan Thana Awami League worker Karim, 45, Dhaka North City Corporation Ward No. 13 Awami League Joint General Secretary A. Latif Dhali, 58, Paltan Thana Awami Jubo League Joint General Secretary Subrata Pal, 55, Sabujbagh Chhatra League Joint General Secretary Md. Mehedi Hasan, 30, Ward No. 62 Jubo League Assistant Secretary Russell alias Panku Russell, 33, convener of the Awami League's Jhatika procession, and the admin of the "Dhanmondi 32 WhatsApp Group" Pintu, 42.

They were arrested from the capital's Gulishtan, Mirpur, Motijheel, Mugda, and Jatrabari areas on Sunday and Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of DB Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed their arrests saying they were accused in several criminal cases with specific charges.

The detainees were involved in an attempt to create panic among public and deteriorate the law and order by holding flash processions in different places in the capital.
