World Metrology Day tomorrow

DHAKA, May 19, 2025 (BSS) - World Metrology Day will be observed tomorrow across the country and elsewhere in the world, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of measurement science and its impact on various aspects of life, including business, trade, and sustainable development.

This year the theme of the day is "Measurements for all times, for all people", highlighting the enduring importance of accurate measurement in shaping our past, present, and future.

The Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Secretary to the Ministry of Industries Md. Obaidur Rahman have issued separate messages marking the day.

In addition, the heads of international organisations - the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the International Bureau of Legal Metrology (BIML) - have issued messages on the occasion of the day.

Marking the day, the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has taken various programmes, including discussions, at its head office as well as divisional and district offices. 

Arrangements have been made to broadcast special interview-based discussion programmes at Bangladesh Betar.

In addition, banners, festoons, and placards have been put up at various important places in the capital and divisional and district cities.

Marking the day, a discussion will be held at the Sobhanbagh Auditorium of Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) on Mirpur Road at 10 am tomorrow.

Industries, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan will be present as the chief guest at the discussion, while Secretary to the Ministry of Industries Md. Obaidur Rahman will preside over it.

FBCCI Administrator Md. Hafizur Rahman and Managing Director of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC S. M. Mahbubul Alam will be present as special speakers.

BSTI Director General SM Ferdous Alam will deliver the welcome speech at the event, and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Hasib Chowdhury will present the keynote paper.
