DU students demand justice for Samyo Killing

DHAKA, May 19, 2025 (BSS)- A group of Dhaka University students today demanded the administration to ensure justice for slain DU student Shariar Alam Samyo without any delay.

They made this demand at a press conference in front of DU Central Library this afternoon under the banner ‘Students Against Terrorism’.

The organizers placed four-point demands including formation of a committee for prompt and impartial investigation into the killing.

The demands include resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and Proctor of the Dhaka University for their failure to ensure security of the students.

They demanded justice for all recent incidents happened on the campus and security breaches along with structural and policy reform for a better campus and public safety.

Abidur Rahman Mishu, a student of Surya Sen Hall also a JCD activist, read out the written statement at the press conference.

He called for a transparent, neutral, and timely investigation into Samya’s murder, urging authorities to arrest the real perpetrators.

“Samya was an active and courageous student who played a vital role in the July’s mass uprising. His killing is not only a personal tragedy but also a blow to that collective uprising,” said Mishu.

Shahriar Alam Samya, a post-graduate student and literary and publication secretary of the Sir A. F. Rahman Hall unit of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was stabbed to death on May 13 night by miscreants at Suharawardi Uddyan.
