One held with 347 smuggled mobile phones in capital’s Paribagh

DHAKA, May 20, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police on Monday arrested an active member of a smuggling gang with 347 smuggled mobile phones of different brands worth about TK 90 lakh and a private car.   

The   arrestee was identified as Nafis Ahmed (20) and   347 smuggled mobile phones were recovered from his possession during the arrest. 

At the same time, a private car used for smuggling was also seized, said a police press release.

A squad of DB arrested Nafis Ahmed in front of Motaleb Tower in Paribagh area under Shahbagh police station while unloading the smuggled mobile phones from a private car around 1:55pm on Monday.  

The raid was conducted following intelligence information that large number of mobile phones which were smuggled from India would be unloaded and sold in Paribagh area under Shahbagh police station. 

The estimated value of the recovered mobile phones is TK 90 lakh, the release said.

Sensing the presence of DB, some members of the smuggling gang fled away. 

A case has been registered with Shahbagh police station in this connection.
