Three to die for killing college student in Kishoreganj

KISHOREGANJ, May 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced three people 
to death for killing a college student 17 years ago here.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 Fatema Jahan Swarna 
pronounced the verdict this afternoon in presence of one convict, Public 
Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Md. Jalal Uddin said.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each.

The death row convicts are Md. Sumon Mia, 39, son of Shakil Uddin of 
Bhairabpur Uttarpara village in Bhairab upazila of the district, Selina 
Begum, 41, wife of Md. Qayum Sarkar of Bancharampur Daulatdia village in 
Brahmanbaria district and Subha Prakash, 37, daughter of the late Abdul 
Khalek of Ashuganj Sonarampur village in the same district.

According to prosecution, on January 6, 2008, around 9 pm some miscreants 
stabbed Mohammad Ali, son of Md. Shamsuddin Miah of Tarakandi Madhyapara 
under Kuliarchar upazila of the district and a student of Haji Hasmat College 
in Bhairab, and his friend Murad at the college gate.

At that time, other students rescued them and took Bhairab Matrika Hospital 
where the on-duty doctor declared Mohammad dead.

Later, Ali's father Shamsuddin Mia filed a murder case with Bhairab Police 
Station on January 7, 2008.

Later on May 30 of the same year, the then Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bhairab 
Police Station and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case A. Aziz 
submitted a charge-sheet to the court. 

After a long hearing, the court announced the verdict, the PP added.
