2 former BRUR VCs sued on corruption charges

DHAKA, June 18, 2025(BSS)- Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against two former vice chancellors of Begum Rokeya University-Rangpur (BRUR) and three others for their alleged involvement in corruption in implementing a special development project.

ACC Director General Md Akter Hossain said this at a briefing at the ACC headquarters at Segunbagicha here today.

They accused persons are former VC of the university AKM Nur-Un-Nabi and Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimiullah, former executive engineer of the university Jahangir Alam and two contractors Abdus Salam Baschu and M M Habibur Rahman.
 
According to the case description the accused persons in connivance with each other signed an agreement of over Taka 30 crore defying the approved development project proposal (DPP) and changing the architectural design without the approval of the concerned ministry.
 
They also allowed the contractor to take a collateral free loan of Taka four crore against a fixed deposit making the university as its granter.

The ACC sources also alleged that the accused persons gave advance payment to the contractor without the approval of the competent authorities and released his bank guaranty before the adjustment of the bill. 

They also illegally appointed a second consultant defying the design of the first consultant and made irregularities in evaluating the tender, the ACC officials added.

The ACC lodged the case under section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947 and section 409 and 109 of Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC).
