Govt. working to reduce poverty rate: Statistics, Info Management Secy

CHATTOGRAM, June 18, 2025 (BSS) - Secretary of the Statistics and Information Management Department  Aleya Akhter said that the government is actively working to reduce the poverty rate in the country through various programs.
 
She made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar held at the Chattogram Circuit House Conference Room today.

The seminar titled Dissemination Program Property Map of Bangladesh-2025 was organized by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.

Aleya Akhter mentioned that Bangladesh Statistics and Information Management Department collects data annually to address poverty in the country and presents statistics to the government. 

The department is striving to improve its operation to minimize errors. By working diligently in our respective roles, we can make significant strides in poverty alleviation in the country. 

According to the latest survey conducted by the BBS, the poverty rate in Bangladesh has decreased.

However, there are still regions with high poverty rates, which is a crucial consideration for policymakers. 

 She also noted that various development partners including UNDP, World Bank and UNICEF are assisting Bangladesh in poverty alleviation efforts and achieving SDGs. 

Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin presided over the function while Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Director General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Additional Secretary of Statistics and Information Management Division Mohammad Masud Rana Chowdhury, DIG of Chattogram Range Police Md. Ahsan Habib Palash and Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam among others spoke as special guests. 

Officials from various government departments, representatives from the World Food Program, Deputy Commissioners of Chattogram Division, and journalists from print and electronic media attended the seminar.
