DHAKA, June 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today said BNP is struggling for an independent and impartial judiciary which would work freely and play role as a guardian of the nation.

"We want the judiciary will be completely independent and free," he told journalists following a day-long discussion with the National Consensus Commission at Foreign Service Academy here.

According to the current constitution, the President can appoint the Chief Justice alone. But there should be a criterion to appoint the Chief Justice, he noted saying all political parties except two agreed on this issue.”

Asked about the topics of discussion today, he said a proposal to increase the number of reserved seats for women in parliament from 50 to 100 has been placed.

Salahuddin Ahmed said, We agree with the idea of a bicameral parliament with 100 seats. Most political parties also agreed with the idea of a bicameral parliament.

It will be included in the July Charter if all parties come to consensus on the issue.
