DHAKA, June 18, 2025 (BGB) - A taskforce of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today conducted drive against illegal stone and sand extraction and stone crusher machines in the Jaflong area of Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet district.

In the operation, the electricity connections of 67 stone crusher machines were disconnected and the electric meters and stone crusher machines were seized, said a BGB press release.

The operation conducted in the areas of Guchchagram, Mohammadpur, Mamar Shop, Ballarghat and Melar Math under the responsibility of BGB's Sangram BOP (approximately two kilometers inside Bangladesh from Border Pillar 1273/9-S) under the direct supervision of BGB's Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).

Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Md. Nazmul Haque said that the BGB is working to provide security to state assets in the border areas in addition to border security.

Besides, the BGB is playing an important role in maintaining law and order in the border areas and providing security to the people's lives and property through regular cooperation with the local administration.

In continuation of this, the BGB has been strengthening patrols and conducting operations at the border, and has been conducting regular task force operations with the local administration to stop illegal sand and stone extraction in the border areas and protect the balance of the environment.

"This trend of cooperation by the BGB will continue in the future," he said.

Gowainghat Upazila Executive Officer Ratan Kumar Adhikari said that illegally extracted stones were being crushed in unlicensed crusher machines in the Jaflong area for a long time.

These activities were being carried out illegally, which is a threat to the environment and public interest.
