DHAKA, June 21, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to send two muggers, who looted Taka 22 lakhs from a money exchange trader from the city’s Mirpur area, to jail.
Mirpur police produced the muggers-Mostafizur Rahman,40, and Jalil Molla,52- before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court following three days remand and prayed for confining them into jail.
After the application, Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Juwel Rana, on behalf of the CMM, ordered to send them to jail custody till the end of the investigation into the case.
According to the case-the arrested muggers along with their accomplices snatched away Taka 21,70,535 in cash, 3550 US dollars and 11,500 Saudi Riyal from money exchange trader Zahidur Rahman and his staff Rasel while they were going to the money exchange office at Mirpur section-10 on Many 27 last.
The muggers numbering seven to eight ridding on three motorcycles intercepted Zahid and Rasel inside a lane between Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and Fire Service Training Academy at Mirpur section- 2 at about 9:40am. The muggers then looted the money from the trader at gun point and opened blank shots and decamped with the booty.
Later, a case was lodged with Mirpur police in this connection.
Mirpur police on June 16 arrested Mostafizur Rahman from a village under Mirzaganj Thana of Patuakhali district and recovered Taka 3,00,000 from his possession.
They also arrested one Shaikot Hossain from Muladi area in Barisal district and recovered Taka 2,04,000 and a motorcycle on that day.
On the basis of the information from Mustafiz and Shaekot, police on June 17, arrested Md Shohag Hossain from Jashore Kotwali Thana.
They also arrested one Jalil and Polash Molla from Ashulia and Mymensingh areas on the same day. On June 18, a court also granted three days police remand to Mostafizur Rahman and Jalil Molla for interrogating them in connection with the case.
