First ever political conference begins at DU

DHAKA, June 22, 2025 (BSS) – The two-day political conference, first of its kind, has begun on the Dhaka University campus today aimed at strengthening relations among the people belonging to various professional entities. 

The conference, titled ‘The State Reforms in Transitional Democracy: From Mass Uprising to Election and State Building’ was held at the Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of the Dhaka University. 

Shadow Reform Commission, Shadow National Consensus Commission, Political and Policy research jointly arranged the conference.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the National University Prof. Dr. ASM Amanullah, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) of Bangladesh Open University, Prof. Dr. Dil Rawshan Jinnat Ara Nazneen, and Chairperson of the Department of Political Science Prof. Dr. Nasima Khatun spoke at the opening ceremony of the conference.

Vice-President of the National Consensus Commission Prof. Ali Riaz presented the keynote speech while convener of the conference Prof. Kazi Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman delivered the address of welcome. 

Speaking on the occasion, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, "We are going through a transitional period after the July Uprising. To consolidate democracy, everyone must remain united and we must move forward together by removing all political and social differences”. 

He expressed the hope that this conference will play a crucial role in strengthening mutual relations and increasing networks among teachers, researchers and professionals. 

Teachers and researchers from various universities will present about 60 papers in 16 sessions of the two-day conference.
