Experts for promoting awareness in using public service facilities with care

DHAKA, June 23, 2025 (BSS) – Highlighting the importance of preserving public infrastructures, experts have laid emphasis on promoting awareness in using public service facilities with care to prevent damage of infrastructures.

They observed that the people concerned and the community’s participation are essential to save the service facilities for the benefits of the nation.

They made the observation at a series of meetings recently held under the Emergency Multi-Sector Rohingya Crisis Response Project (EMCRP), supported by the World Bank and implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), said a press release.

In a bid to foster responsible use of public infrastructures, the Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP) organized the series of 9 awareness sessions titled on “Awareness session with Local Influential with EMCRP provided Services” at five upazilas of Cox’s Bazar. 

The aim of these events is to inform and engage the local influential people to be responsible use of government service facilities with care. 

Focusing on the responsible use of public infrastructures, these sessions brought together Upazila Engineer of LGED, Upazila Education Officer, School Head Teachers, local MUPs, UP Secretary, civil society members, NGOs representatives and journalists in these meetings. 

A total of 239 participants attended these meetings and they highlighted the importance of preserving the essential infrastructures that are implemented by the LGED under this project. 

These events were held at five upazilas of Cox’s Bazar like Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ramu, Ukhiya, Teknaf and Maheshkhali Upazila on separate dates. The distinguished guest’s valuable presence makes these events impactful, and they highlighted the responsible use and sustainability of public service facilities and shared their valuable insights in these sessions.

Rokunuzzaman Khan, Upazila Engineer of LGED, Ukhiya said in his speech, “Everyone should be aware of the care in using government infrastructure facilities, should maintain them like their own resources”. 

He highlighted the developments at Ukhiya Upazila under the EMCRP Project.

He said, “The roads, bridges, culverts and various infrastructures developments activities are being implemented for the locals under the EMCRP project with the support of the World Bank. LGED implemented these infrastructures, and these are your resources. You must be responsible for using these resources carefully”. 

Khan stressed that the locals should be more responsible for maintaining the roads that were constructed through LGED.  

Boni Amin Joni, Upazila Engineer of LGED, Maheshkhali, emphasized the ensuring safe use of service facilities.

He said, “School-Cum-Cyclone Shelters that were implemented at Maheshkhali Upazila at the same time many roads were constructed under this project all these are your own resources. So, you should take responsibility to maintain it and you should ensure responsible use of these resources with care”.
